In 1967 a study group recommended the foundation of a summer festival based on an important local crop – strawberries, to promote the area as a tourist attraction. Thousands of visitors decended on the town from all over Ireland to enjoy the free outdoor entertainment and purchase the fruit – as much as twenty tons of strawberries were consumed during the Fair.

Over the intervening years, local fruit farmers have seized the opportunity to bring the product to customers and share with the rest of Ireland our luscious emblem of summertime. Each year the festival has witnessed a huge influx of visitors to enjoy the strawberries, sun and fun on an occasion that equals and perpetuates the great August gatherings at the “Fair of Inish Corr”.

The Strawberry Festival will celebrate its 43rd year this June. Expect music, theatre, street entertainment, markets and many of the events traditionally associated with the festival.

The fair is held at the end of June every year in Enniscorthy, a small picturesque town in the heart of Co. Wexford.

The Strawberry Festival 2010 will be held on 25th-27th June 2010.

There will be street music throughout the festival, a farmers market and the bi-annual craft fair (which will begin running before the festival commences).

McFaddens Fun Fair

Each year McFadden’s fun fair run amusements, usually in the Bellefield GAA pitch.

Every year a Strawberry Queen is selected who is put forward to compete in the Waterford heat of the Rose of Tralee. Last year, Chloe Mythen was crowned Queen (see gallery section for last years pictures).

A craft fair is held during the festival in the town, click here for more information.

Strawberries grown and picked in County Wexford are sold throughout the festival. Click here to go to the Wexford Fruit Producers website.
